I'm hitting the brakes on my weight. The question is how often should I assess how I am doing? I vote for weekly.

Bad news for you smoothie lovers.... You are just taking in a pile of calories in liquid form... A calorie is a calorie, regardless of whether it is liquefied or not. I suppose that if your smoothie consists just of vegetables that it could be low caloric. However, if it consists of a variety of fruits, you might as well be having a breakfast burrito.... (with hash browns....)

Should you fast before a cholesterol test? I find that some of you get a bit cranky if indeed you are fasting before your cholesterol assessment..... Studies now show that it isn't really necessary to have a cholesterol test on an empty stomach. I am relieved by this finding..... It will make it easier to have a pleasant physician/patient visit.

Memorial day weekend is indeed fantastic! Three days off from the grind of work, maybe some fishing, a big barbecue with friends and family, watching a blockbuster movie, sleeping in...... We all know this to be true: You lose weight and then some how your body gains it back. The "Biggest Losers" all did. Indeed, life is unfair. The reason: your body crashes your metabolic rate to put your lost weight back on. From natures point of view, this makes sense. As your doctor, I say deal with it. Eat even less.....or exercise even more.

Men are right to be terrified about Mother's Day.....
There is no way they can win. The day is spent bestowing affection towards their mother while trying to do the same for the mother of his children (the wife). It is an impossible task. Let me know if anyone has any ideas of survival. I am getting ready to enter the dog house......

I know that this is a difficult issue: Tinkering with nature.....Weighing the benefits and risks of genetically engineering animals. I just remember that those genetically altered lady bugs sure did bite.

It appears that your nice, leisurely walk probably doesn't get you into as good physical shape as you think.
It is more beneficial to have bursts of aerobic activity, even if the spent exercise time is dramatically less. I recommend the exercise bike over the sprint for our old knees....
