Slow racer.....

Posted by Charles Waisbren on February 26, 2017 at 5:13 PM

You know that you are slow when your 90 year old mother beats you in a "running" race. I'm up to a cane, now, so I think I might be able to win next weekend.....

I am back!

Posted by Charles Waisbren on February 21, 2017 at 11:55 AM

My new right knee is working just fine. However, I still can't dunk a basketball.... Tylenol is keeping any pain at bay and I am eager to start back to work. I will start slowly: seeing "call ins" Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I am up to date on all my mail and outstanding laboratory results so it look like things have been going smoothly. I would like to give special thanks to all my office staff for helping run things so efficiently and to all my patients who have been so understanding during my convalescence.

Post Operative Boredom...

Posted by Charles Waisbren on February 05, 2017 at 2:48 PM

4 days until my knee replacement.... My surgeons are ready. I need ideas what to do for all the weeks that I will be off. How about movie ideas? I have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Direct TV (although I have yet to use these services...).
Reading the article linked, I think that it will be a long and boring several weeks..

My poor knee....

Posted by Charles Waisbren on February 01, 2017 at 3:25 PM

I am having my right knee replaced a week from this Thursday. We shall see how good a patient I will be. The orthopedist who "drew the short straw" is doing the surgery.
I will be on "phone call" until I am up and about...

Why medical advice seems to change so frequently...

Posted by Charles Waisbren on January 21, 2017 at 1:30 PM

From how often woman should get pap smears to what is recommended in our food choices, indeed medical recommendations frequently change. Because double blind, controlled studies require many subjects and take many years to complete, don't be surprised if what is proposed now is not what is suggested later........(you should now feed your children low doses of peanuts.......)

Time to get away!

Posted by Charles Waisbren on January 04, 2017 at 3:23 PM

Beware: Winter Is HERE!
An international study found that cold weather is responsible, directly or indirectly, for 20 times more deaths than hot weather.
If you need a prescription for a hot weather vacation, check with your insurance company to see if it is a covered benefit. I would be happy to write you a prescription for warm climate respite....

Should You Make New Years Resolutions?

Posted by Charles Waisbren on January 01, 2017 at 10:35 AM

No more New Years Resolutions? Don't set enormous goals; don't try to get organized; you don't have to "go for the burn"; forget trying for more; skip the health food stuff if you don't really like it; it's OK not to cook; don't freak out about keeping a line item budget; don't use January 1st as a kick off date.... I don't really agree with this article. My dear old Dad (may he rest in peace) always said "you should never stop trying".... I feel that this is what New Years resolutions are about. I say: "keep on trying"....
