Can Being Cold Make You Sick?

Posted by Charles Waisbren on December 01, 2018 at 1:07 PM

Brrrrr....Winter has come....but being cold doesn't really get you sick. You need to come in contact with a cold virus to get that sore throat and cough... However, winter is associated with getting a cold because:
1) Cold viruses are more prevalent during January, February and March.
2) People stay indoors and closer together during the winter months. Hence, it is easier to catch another person's cold.
3) That hot, dry house you cluster in to stay warm is a perfect environment for the cold virus to thrive. They don't live outside the human body nearly as long during those wonderful summer days.
4) Being cold is associated with a drop in your immune status. Hence you become more susceptible to get infected by a cold virus if you aren't toasty...

Bottom line.....Hang in there this winter.....Don't keep your house too dry and too hot(special message to my wife) and dress warmly....
