It is all about possible risks vs benefits: Statins reduce cardiovascular events by 25%/year; coronary artery deaths by 28%/year; blood clots to the legs and lungs by 15-25%/year and also might decrease the risk of developing Alzheimer's Disease. The risks DON'T outweigh the significant benefits in most patients.
